Choose a freestanding wine cooler from Wineandbarrels

With a freestanding wine cooler, you can store all your lovely wines optimally, so that your red or white wines have just the right temperature. This cooler can be placed wherever you want and wherever it makes sense in your home.

Our wine coolers come in several designs and sizes, so you can store all your wines. You can also store beverages such as beer and soft drinks. This means you won't take up any space in your regular fridge.

What is a freestanding wine cooler?

A freestanding wine cooler can be placed almost anywhere. Freestanding refrigerators do not require a cabinet, but can simply stand alone. That’s why you can place it in your kitchen, dining room or garage. The only thing you need to be aware of is that the wine cooler has at least 5 cm of air on all sides.

Benefits of our freestanding wine coolers

In many cases, a freestanding wine cooler is a good choice. The most optimal advantage of a freestanding wine cooler is that you can move it if, for example, you want to renovate your home and give it a new place.

In addition, our freestanding wine coolers are available in many designs and sizes. You can get a cooler that keeps your precious wine bottles at just the right temperature.

What to consider before buying a wine cooler

Before you buy a new wine cooler, there are a few things to consider. First, make sure the fridge has enough storage space for your wine collection. Do you only need space for a small selection of your wines? Or do you usually buy a larger quantity of wine that you want to store at the same time? Our refrigerators come in many sizes, so you’re sure to find a variant that suits your needs.

If you need a wine fridge that can hold more than 100 bottles, take a look at our selection of larger variants. If, on the other hand, you only need space for around 50 bottles, you can choose one of our wine coolers under the worktop, which will fit nicely into your kitchen. This way, you can make sure that some of your best wines are close by, for example, if you get unexpected guests.

Some of our wine coolers have a hygrometer. This allows you to monitor the humidity in the fridge, which should be around 60–80%. It is also possible to purchase a hygrometer for your wine cooler so that you can keep an eye on the air humidity.

Built-in, integrated or free-standing?

You also need to consider where you want to place your new wine cooler. Do you want to install it in your kitchen? Or do you want it in a dining room or garage? You can choose between built-in, freestanding or integrated fridge. The built-in wine cooler stands on the floor instead of a kitchen unit.

An integrated refrigerator is located in the existing kitchen unit. It fits perfectly into the kitchen and the cabinet itself is not visible when the wine cooler door is closed.

As the name suggests, a free-standing wine cooler must be freely placed and have at least 5 cm of air on the sides.

Should I choose a wine cooler with one or two temperature zones?

It is a good idea to consider whether you want a wine cooler that is optimal for long-term or short-term storage. In general, you can choose between two different wine coolers. The single-zone wine cooler has one stable temperature that recreates conditions similar to those in a wine cellar. It’s great for storing your wine for longer.

You can also get wine coolers with two temperature zones, which are ideal if you want to be able to store different bottles ready to serve at any time. This variant has two or more zones, which means that you can store red and white in the same fridge at the same time.

Power consumption of a wine cooler

The amount of electricity used by a wine cooler varies, as power consumption depends on various factors. For example, the number of temperature zones plays a role. However, as a rule of thumb, most wine coolers use around 150–250 kW/year.

To make it easy for you, all our wine coolers are labelled with an energy label. This way, you can easily navigate through our selection and choose the fridge that suits you best. And if you’re specifically looking for a low-energy variant, you should explore our Pevino wine coolers, as they have low electricity consumption.

Other things you can store in a wine cooler

If you buy a wine cooler, the purpose is probably to store wine. But in addition to your favourite wine, you can also store other beverages in your new wine cooler. You can store beer, soft drinks and mineral water in the cooler if your regular fridge is already full or if you simply don't want to take up space here. In fact, beer and wine have very similar needs when it comes to storage and storage, so a wine fridge is also ideal for the golden drink. However, be careful not to store beverages in cardboard packaging as this may interfere with humidity.

We do not recommend using the wine cooler for foods such as cheese and chocolate in a wine cooler, as the release of vapours can damage the mechanical elements of the cooling element.

Before you install your new freestanding wine cooler

Have you found your new wine cooler and are you ready to take it home? If you pick up the wine cooler yourself, it is important that it remains upright during the entire transport. Otherwise, the compressor and the cooling system may be damaged. If you don't want to risk this, consider having it delivered by professionals.

Once you have placed the wine cooler in your home, it is best to wait 24–48 hours before connecting the power to the cabinet. The refrigerator must be stationary after transport and you must also make sure that it is level.

You will need a grounding plug when connecting the wine cooler. This is important for your own safety, otherwise you risk breaking the wine cooler.

When you are ready to fill the fridge with wine, it is important that there is space for the air to circulate through the wine fridge so that there is a constant temperature in the cooling zone.
